Clive Fedida then went to Tymnet to do due diligence on the packet switching part of the deal.

After the deal went through I eventually got sent to Tymnet to get some technical understanding of the network, engines and so on as described on this page.

Looks like they were planning another jolly in 1991, I never got to go on that one, I would have thought by that time they would have realised Tymnet engines were not suitable?

___________________________________________________________________________

1. Background.

Mark Baker is seeking progress on the UK Tymnet migration plan, and
has specifically asked what steps would be required to achieve full
cutover from Telenet to Tymnet within 3 years.

The currently approved migration plan is for a 7 to 8 year migration.
The speed of migration will be determined by logistics/resource
availability.

2. Organization.

Beverly Atchison is serving as the program manager for NA, with
project overview and coordination responsibility. Her core team
under Lana Vaysburd include Anver Meghji (migration planning), David
Fields (GNS network capacity and Sup, node code & ISIS), Ned Chini
(Turbo/RACER/LOG2)

Also under Lana are the product managers representing X25 (Ted
Rozolis), Network Management (Jim McWalters), IBM (Patty Snow/
Dawn Danaher), Menu/Async (Patty Snow/Michael Erickson), Billing
and routing (Graham Forward

Key development experts are Dennis Ernst (X25/Addressing/Billing),
Omar Serang (Sup/LOG2) and Paolo Mele (X25/Async).

The UK team team visiting San Jose for the week 18 -22 November
comprises Martin Baker, Guy Bloom, Anthony Harris and Eoin McDonnell.

3.Objective.

The objective of the week's visit is to ensure that Tymnet NA have a
sufficient understanding of the Tymnet UK business and technology to
progress the requirements for migration.

We hope that during the week we shall draw up an agreed list of points
requiring action, decision or further exploration in order to enable
migration to proceed. This should provide a basis from which action
plans can be agreed and progressed.

The meetings will concentrate on tecnical issues related to the
migration. Commercial and procedural issues may be identified but
will not be pursued in any detail during the week.

4. Priorities.

As currently perceived, UK services are to be considered for
migration in the following priority order:

     Internet
     PSS-X.25 data lines
     HSN netlines including volume growth
     Dialplus netlines
     MSS netlines
     Cardway netlines
     HSN service
     X.25 mass migration
     IBM service
     Dialplus service

re: Newnet Stats

Rosie,

Yes, for some reason my gold ID was changed to M.J.BAKER when
Marc Baker was head of BTTE.

Any time this week is OK for your response since Niamh Murtagh
is on a course this week, so I hope we can analyse the resposes
early next week, and plan the next step.

Martin
